Alta Gray Cox was born March 7, 1921 to George and Edith (Caldwell) Gray in Visalia, KY. Alta went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2021. She passed peacefully at her home in Independence.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Warner (2007) and her sister, Alice Richardson (2001). Alta is survived by her son, Gary Gray (Carolyn) Cox and daughter, Peggy June (Daryl) Miller. A Niece, 3 Nephews, 2 great nieces, 1 great great niece, 3 great great nephews and 1 great great great niece. 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren, and many former students.

She graduated from Simon Kenton High School in Independence in 1940 and from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Winchester, KY in 1944.

Alta taught at Simon Kenton High School and later at Twenhofel Middle School. She retired after having taught for 32 years in 1982. She was a member of the Independence Christian Church, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Kenton County Retired Teachers Association.

Graveside services will be held at the Independence Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
