Donna Gayle Yeager, age 89, of Independence, died Thursday, Decemer 15, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. Donna was born July 15, 1933 in Piner, Kentucky to Edgar Ellis and Beulah Mae Pelley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Samuel Dawson Yeager, 1 Sister – Anna Belle Yeager, 2 daughters – Susan Gayle Curran and Stacey Lynne Clise, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She is survived by 3 children - Samuel Yeager Jr., Sandra Harney (Carl) and Stephanie Crane (Rick), 1 brother – Edgar Pelley (Pat), 11 Grandchildren & 20 Great Grandchildren. Also survived by her devoted partner – Stanley Kahrs Sr. Plus, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers after 30 years of civilian service, 17 years with Independence Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 2 years Independence Volunteer Fire Department EMT (first female EMT), 9 years Board of Directors on Independence Fire Department, 12 years Board of Directors at Farmers National Bank, 16 years on Independence City Council, 2 years – Mayor of Independence (first female Mayor), Regional appointment to Council on Aging and Independence Recreation Committee. Her passion for family, friends and community has made its mark not only on family but the City of Independence. A legacy including advocacy for parks, senior center, amphitheater, municipal center, the Christmas Walk and the 4 ^th of July celebration were some of her passions. Blessed with loving care from family, friends and extended family, affectionately known as Donna's Angles, Donna guided us through the end of her journey with grace, wisdom, laughter and love. Visitation 10am-1pm Wednesday, December 21, 2022 with Mass at 1pm at St. Patrick Church 3285 Mills Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015. Arrangements handled by SWINDLER & CURRIN FUNERAL HOME. Burial following Mass at Independence Cemetery, Independence, KY.
