IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Herbert Hoover
Works
March 1, 2024
Herbert Hoover Works, 95, of Walton, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was born on election day, November 6th, in 1928. He came from very humble beginnings, being raised by his grandparents on a farm in southern Kenton County. He developed his unmatchable work ethic very early in life by working on his family's farm as well as several others in the county. He traveled around milking cows and cutting tobacco in exchange for room and board and a few hot meals. He eventually found his roots with the Kelly family and joined in several business ventures with his best friend, Gene Kelly. Never one to sit still, he also raised three children and ran an apple and peach orchard during this time. Herb had a knack for business and the following years brought success, especially at his primary business, Boone Kenton Lumber. With a late addition in life, he became a father again to a son at the age of 51. In 1992, he partnered with friends to create the Bank of Kentucky, eventually becoming chairman of their board. Through the years he held positions on several other boards such as the Kentucky Cattleman's Association and the National Lumberman's Association. His happiest moments were summer days spent on his farm with his family and his cows. He was loved by so many because of his kind, generous nature, and his willingness to give guidance and words of wisdom to anyone in need. He lived an amazing life in his 95 years and had so many wonderful stories to share. He was the same until the very end. He was preceded by his sister Norma Webster.
He leaves behind two sons Wayne (Barbara) Works and Gene (Crystal) Works; two daughters Victoria Works and Kimberly Works; two step sons Bryson and Mark Wilson; eight grandchildren Bryan (Ashley), Robert, Michael, Cody, Bryson, Lance, Marcus and Morgan and three great grandchildren Braylan, Bridger and Julianna and long time companion Winona Coppage.
