Imogene "Jean" Smith, 98, was called to heaven on Saturday, March 16 in her home with both daughters at her side. She was born in Russell County, Ky. to Joseph and Fetna Stapp. Jean was the youngest of 5 brothers and 1 sister. She came to Northern Ky. with 3 friends just before WWII where she later met her future husband, Doug.
Jean enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, dancing, and painting. She was a nearly lifelong member of Latonia Baptist Church, where she enjoyed attending Sunday School in the JOY class and participating in activities and trips with church members. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, Cincinnati Red's and Bengals. Jean was a lover of animals and shared her life with many over the years.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Doug and survived by her two daughters, Beverly (Dave) Willman and Barbara Smith, a granddaughter, Mollie (Jason) Bannister, four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Avery, Caleb, and Olivia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11am till 12 noon with a Memorial Service beginning at 12noon Wednesday, March 20th all at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home in Latonia. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to Latonia Baptist Church, 3800 Church St., Latonia, KY 41015 or to an animal shelter of your choice.
