Mary Lou Portier Abel, 86, of Latonia, went to be with the Lord after a long illness surrounded by her family on January 30, 2024.

Mary Lou was a homemaker.  She was a loving and caring wife, mother, memaw and great-grandmother.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and traveling.  She was a beloved neighbor and enjoyed working in her yard.  Mary Lou was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia (and a charter member of Sunday School).  She was happily married to her husband Ron for 67 years, and they cared for each other well.

She is preceded in death by her parents:  Joe and Settie Portier and her sister Rebecca Earlywine.  She is survived by her husband Ron Abel, her daughter Pam Sheaffer and son-in-law Paul, her son Chuck Abel and daughter-in-law Kim; 6 grandchildren: Kristin (Aaron) Scanlan, Kasey (Kelly) Sheaffer, Kaitlyn (Luke) Tolley, Kelsey (Alex) Downton, Kassidy (Jon) Schoonover, Karley Abel; and 11 great-grandchildren:  Rachel, Elijah and Lissie Scanlan; Will and Emmie Sheaffer; Eliana, Elliot, and Emarie Tolley; Jude and Joey Downton; and Mason Schoonover. She is also survived by her brother Bill Portier.

Visitation 10-11:30 with funeral service beginning at 11:30, February 2, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church Chapel, 3711 Tibbatts St. Latonia, KY 41015. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Mission Fund.
