Obituary

Nancy Sue Helton died the morning of March 5, 2025, at her home in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, at the age of 82.

She was born January 21, 1943 in Cincinnati, to John and Ruth (nee Sendelbeck) Connelly. Nancy remained in the Queen City until moving in 1980 to the Kentucky home she shared with her husband, Don Helton, until her passing. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2020.

Known for generosity, Nancy was an involved community member wherever she found herself. She volunteered for four decades at Calvary Baptist Church in Covington. She baked hundreds of loaves of bread, given to family, friends, neighbors and strangers. She spent many Election Days as a poll worker. She was a committed caregiver for the vulnerable, especially the elderly, and raised funding for cancer patients. She took in various stray cats, a practice she shared with her mother.

In 1961, she graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati where she marched and twirled as a majorette. She later served as a photographer for numerous class reunions.

Her professional portfolio included time at Baldwin Piano, the IRS and Brighton Center.

Nancy remained active well into her 70s, regularly walking five miles a day, picking up hundreds of dollars of coins along the way. She was also fond of fishing, bicycling, gardening and tea parties.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Nancy is survived by her husband, their son, Donnie (Charlotte) Helton; her grandchildren, Elijah Helton and Emily (Cole) Nolf; her siblings, Judy Robison, Connie Rempe, Rick (Mary) Connelly and Gina Leach, and several nieces and nephews.

Among her favorite hymns was "This Is My Father's World," where the final verse concludes: "Why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King, let the heavens ring. God reigns, let earth be glad."
